What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a research-based healthcare profession that promotes recovery in illness, injury or disability. It aims to restore movement and functional ability to the person’s full potential. Physiotherapy is an independent profession where practitioners make their own treatment decisions and clinical judgements. They constantly reassess the results of their treatments and adjust their approach. At our clinic we deliver an exceptional combination of manual physiotherapy techniques with specialised exercise-based rehabilitation programmes for a range of injuries and issues. Our highly skilled physiotherapists, who are also fully trained APPI Pilates instructors, have a unique skill set which is in high demand. Our Physiotherapists are CPCM and state registered (SRP).

The first consultation with your Physiotherapist will be an individual assessment in one of our clinic rooms. They may look at your posture, range of movement at a joint or muscle strength. There may be some element of undressing, and we encourage clients to wear comfortable clothing such as a vest top and/or shorts, depending on whether you are seeking treatment for an upper or lower body issue. After the assessment, the physiotherapist can use a variety of treatment modalities and techniques to treat your condition.
For a deeper understanding of your injury or problem we may use assessment techniques such as:

Manual Therapy
• Joint mobilisation and manipulation.
• Trigger pointing.
• Acupuncture is effective activation of the body’s nervous, hormonal and naturally occurring pain relieving systems to bring the body back to a state of balance.
• Ergonomic assessment and advice.
• Soft tissue manipulation aims to release tension of the soft tissue in the joints.
• Dry needling which is an effective technique for treatment of pain and dysfunction by stimulating the body’s release of natural pain killers.

• Ultrasound
• Interferential Therapy
• Laser Therapy
• Magnetic Therapy

Exercise based treatment
• Rehabilitation Pilates where the physiotherapist prescribes individually designed rehabilitation programmes specific to your needs.
• Sport specific strength and conditioning for injury rehabilitation and prevention.
• Home exercise programmes.
