Physio-Pilates

Experience the complete difference

ASSESSMENT / BODY READING
An initial consultation with a Physiotherapist is recommended to ensure that you are best suited to classes, as some injuries will require closer supervision and treatment. This will either be a 30-45 minute assessment where we will look at your posture, range of movement, functional activities such as squats and balance. You will also be taught the 5 basic principles of Pilates and how to apply them to Pilates exercises which is invaluable for once you begin to attend classes.

Mat Physio-Pilates
Pilates is based on a set of principles that exercise the whole body through a range of mat based exercises. Pilates combines the co-ordination of deep postural and stability muscles combined with breathing, arm and leg movements, postural correction and flexibility. With regular practice, Pilates positively changes the body. Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of ability. Scientific research provides evidence of its effectiveness on reducing pain, improving physical function, movement and wellbeing. At our Pilates Studio we teach a unique method of Pilates called the ‘APPI Method’. The APPI method is scientifically based and has become a world leader in rehabilitation and clinical Pilates. Mat classes can also be taught in standing and with using different props so are always fun, inventive and challenging.

Physio-Pilates - Beginner-improver level
This class is aimed at those who have recently started Pilates or have been attending for a period of time with the aim of maintaining a pain free range of movement, strength and general conditioning. The class is taught for the individuals attending and so the instructor adapts each exercise taught according to the needs of the client. Although the basic Pilates exercises are always included they are taught in a way that is safe but fun, innovative and challenging in order to facilitate progress towards clients goals. This class is 55 minutes.

Physio-Pilates - Intermediate Class
For those who like a challenge! These classes are still clinical classes - many of our previous patients attend this class in order to build up their levels of fitness. It keeps them pain free and able to achieve higher levels of function in other tasks that they need to achieve. The class is taught through the higher levels of the Pilates exercises and will challenge strength and endurance as well as balance and co-ordination. This class is 55 minutes.

Physio-Pilates Flow
The Flow class blends the Pilates repertoire with an extra element of mobilization exercises to release tension and pain. There is more focus on stretching and breathing during the session. At the end of this class you will feel lighter and more energized. This class is 55 minutes.

The Physio-Pilates Circuit
This class has become really popular since it’s recent inception by Laura. It is a challenging class where you work out using the higher level Pilates exercises that are already known by the participants but with little ‘twists’ to ensure that strength, endurance and co-ordination are pushed that little bit further. Circuit classes incorporate small equipment, arc barrel and mat as exercise stations which are designed to give you an all over body work out. They aim to provide a range of exercises to improve fitness, co-ordination and tone the whole body. Ideally some experience of Pilates is advised before taking this class. This class is 55 minutes.

REFORMER – ONE ON ONE, DUAL OR GROUP Reformer Physio-Pilates
The Pilates Reformer is an exercise machine used to incorporate the Pilates exercise technique for a challenging and intense workout. Springs, leverage and body weight are used as resistance while performing movements targeting specific muscle groups. Reformer Pilates sessions are designed to improve tone, muscle strength, cardiovascular endurance, balance, coordination, flexibility, mobility and posture. Currently Reformer sessions are taught as individual or duet sessions only. These sessions are 45 minutes.

Physio-Pilates ONE ON ONE - Individual Physio-Pilates
For those recovering from injury, following on from Physiotherapy treatment or just to have that close supervision. Individual Pilates uses both mat and equipment and is geared specifically for you to reach your fitness or rehabilitation goals. These sessions are 45 minutes.
